Coast House
Coast house is a light and comfortable home for a couple on California's Mendocino Coast. |
The Coast House is a passive solar home on the Northern California coast. South-facing glass collects heat even during overcast days; the straw-bale walls retain the heat and keep out the night cold. A small woodstove supplies occasional heat. Light floods into a great room that envelops living, dining and cooking areas under a spacious cathedral ceiling. The small home also includes a sleeping nook, office/bedroom, full bath and laundry/mud room. The house was sucessfully built by the owners with help from their friends, occasional trades people, and the staff of Skillful Means. |
