Plans for Strawbale Homes
Skillful Means is making available pre-designed strawbale home plans. The noPlan allows you maximum flexibility: Three other homes are shown below: A small cottage, a small house, and a larger starter house. Within California, plans are available as a package of design services that will include a visit to your site to observe and evaluate the unique conditions of your location. Construction drawings will be prepared that meet the specfic characteristics of your site: soil, topography and access as well as climate, seismic and wind conditions. Plans will be engineered and stamped by a California architect and engineer, if that is required. Feel free to send us an email with your needs and interest.
	A 300 SQUARE FOOT COTTAGE This is the smallest of the prototypes we have developed. It meets the Uniform Building Code standards for minimum dwelling size, and is an ideal size for a guest cottage. The plan is square, and the hip roof is built with prefabricated trusses.
	A 500 SQUARE FOOT COTTAGE This cottage contains approximately 500 square feet of usable floor area, including an open kitchen and living room and a loft sleeping area. It can easily be heated with a small wood stove. It utilizes a timber frame structure with a story and a half truss enclosing the loft. It is ideal for a vacation cabin, guest cottage or studio. This design is also being used for the gatehouse of the Blue Mountain Wilderness Program.
A 1000 SQUARE FOOT HOUSE This small house contains approximately 1000 square feet of usable floor area, including an open kitchen and living room and two bedrooms on the second floor. It utilizes a timber frame structure with a story and a half truss enclosing the second floor. There is an additional room on the ground floor which can be used as a study or bedroom. A dormer encloses the second floor bathroom. It is an ideal starter home.
