Rhodes Residence
Escalon, California

This large house sits amidst former rice fields in California's great Central Valley.
Begun at Thanksgiving time in 1998, it was completed in the Spring of the next century.

Nearing completion , taken from the northwest.
Garage and dog kennels on the far right.

From the southeast, this photo shows the south-facing courtyard.
The dark section of roof is an array of solar electric (PV) panels laminated to the roofing.

The roof was constructed on a post and beam system before bales were stacked.

This is not a pidgeon roost in a French farmhouse, though it might look it.
The west gable wall features lots of small windows,
designed to take advantage of the thick walls for shading the afternoon sun.
