Ridge House
The Ridge House, inspired by the owners' visits to Moroco, spreads along a ridge providing views, light, and warmth while capturing summer breezes

The natural views from this site in Lake County, California, are to the east. The shading and captured breezes provide relief from the summer sun, and carefully places windows welcome the sun in winter.

An arched entry with fountain leads into a large, square Great Room with high ceilings and exposed beamwork. A solarium area attached to the Great Room will be a warm sitting room in winter. Clerestory windows high in the Great Room will bring winter sun deep into the room.

A gourmet kitchen is open to the great room and also serves a paneled dining room with a full view of the valley below and distant hills. A glassed conservatory connects living and bedroom areas, and can be opened to catch the downhill breeze in summer to allow comfortable lounging and informal dining.

The bedroom wing allows winter sun to penetrate, and the other windows balance view and privacy. A tall, octagonal domed bathing room anchors the house on the north end. A two-story office and garage is a short walk away from the main house

The house is energy independent, using a photovoltaic array to provide electricity, uses recycled materials.

The house is under construction.
